What we collect
When you use the request form or email us, we get your name, your email address and what you tell us about your family: names, dates, places and any documents you send. The Gen 0 Check form saves your email address when you finish its first step, even if you don't send the rest, so we can see how many people start the form.
When you sign up for the free guide, we get your first name, last name and email address. We use them to email you the guide. That email has a one-pixel image in it and a download link that counts the click, so we can see how many people open the email and download the guide. We count those against your sign-up and nothing else.
When you take the quiz, we get your answers, your first name and your email address. We use them to show and email your result and the free Quick Guide. If you tick the box, you join our email list, and we email you about Canadian records, citizenship by descent and the comprehensive guide.
If you ticked the box to hear about the comprehensive guide, our emails about it also count whether you open them and which links you click, so we can see what's useful and stop sending what isn't.
When you buy a template or guide, Link, a Stripe service, takes your payment details on its own page. Stripe then tells us your name, your email address and what you bought. We keep those with your order so we can email your download links and send them again if you ask.
We also count visits to this site: which page was opened, the site that sent you here, your country, and whether you used a phone or a computer. We count these without storing your IP address.
We remember which website, post or ad first brought you here, in a small cookie on this site, so we know which posts and ads work. It stays with us and is never given to advertisers. If you send the request form or buy something, we keep that note with your request or order. The cookie expires after 90 days, and the form's "How did you hear about us?" question is optional.
What we use it for
We use it to do your research, to reply to you, to send invoices and downloads, and to take payment. If you joined our email list (the box on the Quick Guide, quiz or Gen 0 Check form, or the button after a purchase), we email you about Canadian records, citizenship by descent and the comprehensive guide. Anyone who ticked the box on the guide form before 15 October 2026 agreed to emails about the comprehensive guide and other news. Every email has an unsubscribe link. We don't sell it, and we never give your name or email address to advertisers.
Who else sees it
This site runs on Cloudflare, which carries your form submission to our email inbox. When we write to an archive to search for a record, the archive gets the details it needs to find it. We tell you before we do that. Payments are processed by Stripe, which collects your card details on its own page. Purchases of templates and guides go through Link, which sends your receipt and answers payment questions. We don't see or store your card number. The page you see after signing up for the free guide tells Meta (Facebook and Instagram) that a sign-up happened, as explained under Cookies. We share your information with nobody else unless the law requires it.
Cookies
The page where you request a Gen 0 Check, the page you see after signing up for the free guide, the quiz result page and the page you see after paying for a Gen 0 Check load the Meta Pixel. It tells Meta that someone opened the Gen 0 Check page, signed up or paid, so we can see which of our Facebook and Instagram ads bring people to the guide and the Gen 0 Check. Meta may set or read a cookie to do that and links it to your Facebook or Instagram account if you're logged in. We don't send Meta your name or email address. You can limit this in your Facebook or Instagram ad settings, or by blocking third-party cookies in your browser.
No other page on this site uses advertising cookies. Every page loads Google Analytics, which sets its own cookies so Google can count visits and show us which pages people read. Google gets your IP address and browser details when it does. We also keep the small cookie described above that remembers where you came from. Cloudflare may set a cookie that protects the site from abuse.
How long we keep it
We keep project files for three years after a project ends, in case you or your family need them again. After that we delete them, unless you ask us to keep them. Order records for templates and guides are deleted automatically three years after the purchase.
Your choices
You can ask for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it or ask us to delete it. Write to [email protected].
